The Osun Development Association has called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to embrace peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the August governorship election in Osun State.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the association urged political actors to prioritise civility, restraint and respect for the democratic process, warning against violence, hate speech, intimidation and actions capable of threatening the peace of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the governorship election for August 15, 2026.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, contesting for a second term, will slug it out with Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, among others.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of ODA, Dr Segun Aina, the association said elections should be a platform for presenting ideas, policies and programmes that would advance the development of Osun State rather than a period of division and hostility.
