Horror film Obsession has become not just a box-office phenomenon, but a cultural juggernaut. Made on a shoe string budget, the movie has earned over $337 million (Rs 3,201 crore) at the global box-office. The stupendous success of the movie has also made Inde Navarrette, an overnight star for her electrifying performance in the role of Nikki. In an interview with Complex, Navarrette revealed she was unemployed for 18 months after shooting of Obsession wrapped up. "I didn't work for a year and a half after 'Obsession' came out," she stated. "Like I was auditioning, I was doing everything, just nothing was sticking. And I wanted to pay rent, and I wanted to do things…” she said. To cover her rent, she started walking dogs, streamed games on her PC. The actress connected her deep love for films and video games to her constantly changing childhood. Because her family had a military background, frequent relocations were a regular part of her life. As a result, she attended nearly a dozen different schools before reaching the age of fifteen. With every move came a new environment, new classmates, and the challenge of leaving behind friendships she had only just begun to build. The repeated transitions meant she was often forced to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings and form new social circles, experiences that ultimately shaped her interests and drew her toward the immersive worlds offered by cinema and gaming.Helmed by Curry Baker, the movie tells the story of Bear, a music store employee who is in love with his co-worker and friend Nikki. Bear visits a crystal store in search of a present for Nikki and comes across a quirky item called the One Wish Willow. The unusual trinket is advertised as a magical object capable of granting a single wish to each person who breaks it. Thinking it would make an interesting gift, he purchases it for her. That evening, after spending time together with friends, Nikki gathers the courage to ask Bear a straightforward question about his feelings for her. Caught off guard and overwhelmed by nerves, Bear denies having any romantic interest. Although he dismisses her question in the moment, he is immediately disappointed with himself for not being honest.Consumed by regret and wishing he had acted differently, Bear later turns to the One Wish Willow. In a moment of desperation, he breaks the charm and makes a selfish wish: he wants Nikki to care for him more deeply than she cares for anyone else in the world. The decision sets the stage for consequences that neither of them could have anticipated.
