A 40-year-old goalkeeper from Cape Verde just became one of the most talked-about athletes on the planet. Vozinha, who shut out Spain in one of the most memorable World Cup performances in recent memory, is now a free agent looking for his next home.

His contract with Portuguese second-division club Chaves expired on June 1, and the keeper has made it clear he’s not done playing. Brazil is among the destinations he’s considering.

The performance that changed everything

Vozinha’s moment came against Spain, where he delivered a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw. Spain peppered his goal with 27 shots. Seven of those were on target. He saved every single one.

The performance earned him the Player of the Match award. Cape Verde was making its first-ever World Cup appearance, and Vozinha was the oldest player to ever feature in a nation’s inaugural World Cup match at 40 years and 12 days old.
