Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Jayden Adams are among Bafana Bafana’s brightest stars since debuting under Hugo Broos.
Hugo Broos has emphasised that upon stepping down as Bafana Bafana coach after the Fifa World Cup, he will return home to Belgium to enjoy a well-deserved retirement with his "wife, two children, and four grandchildren".
However, the 74-year-old will depart South Africa having forged a new family of his own, which includes his "brother" Helman Mkhalele and a host of players in the Bafana set-up whom he regards as his children and grandchildren.
While most members of the family he built during his five-year tenure with the national team will be grateful for his nurture, care, and guidance, there are five "grandchildren" who will likely never forget how Broos shaped their lives forever.
Relebohile Mofokeng (21), Mbekezeli Mbokazi (20), Oswin Appollis (24), Jayden Adams (25), and Thapelo Maseko (22) made their debuts on football’s grandest stage – an achievement that might not have been possible without "Madala," the nickname they affectionately gave Broos, meaning "old man."
