The new appointment comes as the EU's diplomatic service faces unprecedented criticism
Kajsa Ollongren has been chosen as the new secretary general of the European External Action Service, the EU’s diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas announced to staff on Wednesday.
Ollongren is a former deputy prime minister of the Netherlands, and is currently serving as the body’s special representative for human rights
The former sec gen of EEAS, Belén Martínez Carbonell was moved on from her post this year and appointed as the incoming EU ambassador in Mexico.
Ollongren will start work on 1 September.
