KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer, with the new group of skilled workers, is ready to enhance KZN’s infrastructure.

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Martin Meyer has announced the recruitment of new artisans.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to reduce the department’s reliance on costly outsourcing.

Meyer announced a new intake of 25 artisans in the department, saying the artisans were a testament to an issue he promised to address when he first came into office. The department has a major problem, suffering from the high cost of outsourcing to maintain over 10,000 department properties.

“We communicated that it was taking far too long to attend to maintenance issues and that we would pay up to R10,000 for an outsourced plumbing job.”
