Lying by a swimming pool after a refreshing dip, a sea breeze in the air, is the ideal heatwave set up. With temperatures set to reach the high 30°Cs in parts of the UK this week, many people will be seeking somewhere to cool off.
And, while there’s an abundance of chlorinated pools to choose from, you’ll find spectacular sea water options along the coastline. There’s also a brand-new natural water lido to try in London. Here are eight of British best sea pools and natural water lidos that offer respite from the heat.
Jubilee Pool, Penzance, Cornwall
An Art Deco beauty, Jubilee first opened in 1935, and this large triangular pool holds a hefty five million litres of water. While it’s fed by the tide, it’s usually slightly warmer than the open sea, although there’s a geothermal area that reaches 28–30°C. A sauna (suitable for ages 16-plus) was added in 2024. The Jubilee Café, meanwhile, has fantastic views over the pool and out to Mount’s Bay. Sea pool entry £5.60–7 for adults, £4.95-£5.50 for children, under-3s free. Geothermal pool entry (including sea pool access) £9.60–16 for adults, £5.40–13 for children, under-3s free. Open until 1 November.
