Mobile apps are making shares and ETFs more accessible, but bank clients pay more for simplicity and convenience.
Investing in the stock market is becoming increasingly accessible to the general public. Shares in companies such as Apple or Nvidia, which have become darlings of the financial markets thanks to their potential, can now also be bought in Slovakia by ordinary clients of commercial banks.
The purchase and sale of shares in companies or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through mobile applications is offered by the traditional banks Slovenská Sporiteľňa and Tatra Banka, or by the digital banks Revolut and N26. It is not complicated. On the contrary, these services are designed to be user-friendly enough even for lay investors.
The UK-based fintech company Revolut introduced the service in 2019, although it has officially operated in Slovakia only since February 2021. Two years later, Slovenská Sporiteľňa followed with its George app, and Tatra Banka recently joined in with its InvestQ application.
