MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. urged journalists to report threats against them to the law enforcement agency after Capiz-based broadcaster Jay Lavapiez survived a gun attack.

“We will not allow any form of violence to silence the truth or threaten those who uphold our democracy,” Nartatez said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I urge those who have received threats or feel intimidated to immediately coordinate with your local police stations or the Regional Public Information Office so we can provide the necessary security assessments and protection without delay,” he noted.
