A gang that allegedly stole lithium batteries from mobile phone towers and substations proceeded to sell them on the internet at below-market prices, police said.
The organized crime squad said that a man working on behalf of the gang placed adverts on websites aiming at people who would use them for solar parks. In some cases, the batteries were sold during in-person meetings.
Together with the suspected member who sold on the loot, the gang allegedly had another three members.
It had been active since at least April 2023, and engaged in at least 105 thefts in the Greater Athens region, Evia and parts of central Greece and the Peloponnese.
