Although the case originated before Trump returned to office, the ruling comes as the Supreme Court continues to weigh several major immigration disputes amid his administration’s broader efforts to tighten immigration enforcement.
The United States Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled in favour of the administration of President Donald Trump in an immigration case concerning the government's authority over lawful permanent residents, commonly known as green card holders.
In a 6–3 decision, the court examined the case of Muk Choi Lau, a green card holder who was placed on immigration parole by an immigration officer in 2012 after returning from a brief trip abroad due to allegations that he had been involved in a counterfeiting offence, according to WHAS11.
Lau challenged the action, arguing that the immigration officer exceeded his authority by placing him on parole.
