Real Madrid have made contact with Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie’s camp as the Spanish giants look to add a left-footed centre-back to their squad. The approach signals an emerging tug-of-war over one of South America’s most promising defensive talents, just as Arsenal prepares to make his loan deal permanent.
Hincapie, the 24-year-old Ecuadorian international, joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen in September 2025. That deal includes a £45 million option to buy, which Arsenal is widely expected to trigger. Real Madrid, it seems, would prefer a different outcome.
What Real Madrid are planning
Initial discussions between Real Madrid and Hincapie’s representatives took place around June 22-23, 2026. The timing is notable: Arsenal hasn’t yet formally exercised the purchase option, leaving a narrow window for rival suitors to make their pitch.
Under manager Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid are pursuing a broader defensive overhaul ahead of next season. Hincapie’s versatility, capable of playing both centre-back and left-back, makes him an attractive target for a squad looking to add depth on the left side of defence.
