Oriana Jacobs with her guru, Kantharuby Munsamy, the director principal of the Natya Kalalayam Academy of Music and Dance.

A DURBAN dancer is preparing for her Bharatha Natyam arangetram, blending her Christian faith with the rich traditions of Indian classical dance.

For Oriana Jacobs, 20, this event signifies not just a personal milestone, but also a celebration of cultural fusion.

Her arangetram (the solo debut or graduation ceremony of an Indian classical dancer) will be held on July 11.

Speaking to the POST, Jacobs said: “I started my passion for dance with ballet at 4 years old. I did ballet for a year before going to tap and contemporary dancing.”
