Sergeant Mditshwa died in a fire inside a police vehicle.
The SA Policing Union (SAPU) is calling on the government to treat every attack on a police official as an act of treason, saying it is a crime against the state.
SAPU was responding to the latest murder of a police officer in Town Two, Khayelitsha, on Sunday.
Off-duty police officer, Sergeant Mohlomla, who was stationed at Nyanga Police Station, had just dropped off his wife at church and had been waiting at his uncle’s residence in Hlomela Street, when he was attacked by two gunmen.
It is understood the gunmen fled the scene without taking any items from the scene.
