Amanda wrote a memoir titled Waiting to be Heard about the events that unfolded between 2007 and 2022, including her trial, conviction, and exoneration.‌The self-penned novel inspired the Disney+ drama, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which is arriving on ITV and ITVX in July.Tell Me Lies actress Grace Van Patten takes on the part of Amanda Knox, with Irish actress Sharon Horgan portraying Amanda's mother, Edda Mellas. Meanwhile, Giuseppe De Domenico portrays Raffaele.‌A logline for the drama reads: "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox follows the eponymous American college student, who arrives in Italy for her study abroad, only to be wrongfully imprisoned for murder weeks later."The series traces Amanda’s relentless fight to prove her innocence and reclaim her freedom and examines why authorities and the world stood so firmly in judgment."‌Since the series launched in August 2025 on Disney+, it has received praise from viewers wth one critic writing on Rotten Tomatoes, "This was the most infuriating series I’ve ever watched, in the best way possible. Extremely well done."A second explained: "An intimate and thoughtful take on a story we think we know. Unique and heartbreaking perspective of every character’s point of view. Incredibly raw and emotional.""Excellent and compelling to watch. I watched each episode back-to-back. The acting and casting is very good. The pace was great. Use of Italian subtitles felt authentic", added another.‌However, the drama has also generated backlash from fans, despite Knox herself and Monica Lewinsky serving as executive producers. When the trailer was released on YouTube, several users took to the comments to express their distaste with the adaptation.‌One commenter claimed: "Although Amanda is innocent, I believe that exploiting this tragedy further is wrong. The victim's family has made it clear that they did not want this series to be produced."Another user fumed: "Making it about her again for profit. RIP Meredith, go away Knox."Kercher’s sister, Stephanie, has admitted that she finds it "difficult to understand" the purpose of the drama, according to The Guardian.Article continues belowThe Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox airs on ITV and ITVX next month.
