Councillor Carl Pophaim with City teams at the Belhar Infill Housing project site.

The City of Cape Town has commenced construction on the Belhar Infill Housing Project. This development is designed to provide 216 housing units for eligible residents in the Belhar area.

The project is located to provide residents with access to public transport, schools, healthcare, and economic centers. This placement is intended to integrate the new housing into existing infrastructure and address local demand for residential units in well-connected areas.

According to the City, the civil engineering phase is projected to finish by November 2026. The construction of the top structures is currently scheduled for completion in June 2028, depending on the progress of the work.

According to Councillor Pophaim, the City remains steadfast in its commitment to delivery, ensuring residents gain access to homes that are dignified, safe, and secure. While acknowledging the various competing priorities within communities, he emphasised that the demand for secure tenure and quality housing remains a primary concern. Consequently, the City is gratified to offer measures of relief to address these ongoing housing requirements.
