DMK, AIADMK and Congress Councillors of Kumbakonam Corporation on Tuesday hung the photographs of former Chief Ministers of their parties on the wall of the Council Hall.After the ordinary and urgent meeting of the Council commenced on June 23, Deputy Mayor S. P. Thamizhazhagan did not occupy his seat along with the Mayor and the Commissioner on the podium but sat awith the Councillors.He declined the invitation to occupy his seat on the podium by Mayor Saravanan and Commissioner Sudha, stating that his party (DMK) had been dethroned by the people in the recent Assembly elections. He had returned the official vehicle allotted to him by the Corporation and had decided not to occupy the Deputy Mayor seat on the podium.When the proceedings were to begin, the DMK councillors questioned the display of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s phorograph only on the wall of the Council meeting hall and put up the photographs of former DMK Chief Ministers M. Karunanidhi and M. K. Stalin.AIADMK Councillors followed suit and hung the photograph of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, while Congress members displayed K. Kamaraj.During the course of the meeting, responding to a question on revival of Amma canteens from the Deputy Mayor, the Mayor said that works relating to the revival of the canteens would be taken soon.
