The Tanjore Palace Devasthanam has welcomed a proposal of the Tamil Nadu government to create a regional administrative setup of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department at Tiruchi.According to official sources, Tanjore Prince Babaji Rajah Bhonsle Chattrapathi has welcomed the institution of the regional administrative setup headed by an official in the Additional Commissioner cadre.Devolution of power would enhance governance of temple administrations in the region, having major temples and religious endowments. Hitherto, consent/permissions for every activity of temples such as performance of consecrations, execution of minor or urgent renovations and other temple administration-related activities hade to be obtained from the head office at Chennai, resulting in delay, he said.More importantly, the new setup could help find a solution to the issue of maintaining several temples, where only one person had been engaged for the purpose of performing religious activities. He called upon the Tamil Nadu government to institute more regional administrative offices so that the administration of temples could be carried out in such a manner that would be beneficial to devotees, the Tanjore Prince said.
