The Observatory said it had received information from SERAP indicating that the organisation has been subjected to intimidation, threats and legal action after demanding investigations into alleged corruption and mismanagement within the NNPCL.

Two leading international human rights organisations, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), have accused Nigerian authorities of using judicial processes and intimidation tactics to target the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) following the organisation's anti-corruption campaigns involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The allegations were contained in an urgent appeal issued on Tuesday by the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of FIDH and OMCT, which called on the Nigerian government to immediately halt what it described as judicial harassment against SERAP and guarantee the safety of its staff.

The Observatory said it had received information from SERAP indicating that the organisation has been subjected to intimidation, threats and legal action after demanding investigations into alleged corruption and mismanagement within the NNPCL.
