A former BBC Pointless contestant has opened up about their experience on the popular game show11:09, 23 Jun 2026A Pointless contestant has confessed, "I'm still haunted" more than ten years after taking part in the quiz show.‌The show has established itself as one of Britain's most beloved early evening game shows since its debut in 2009, presented by Alexander Armstrong and formerly co-hosted by Richard Osman, who departed in April 2022 after 13 years at the helm.‌It's hardly surprising that countless individuals queue up to feature on the BBC favourite as they test their general knowledge and try to walk away with the substantial jackpot.‌Yet, it's far from straightforward, as one ex-contestant has revealed about their appearance on the programme and confessed that their blunder continues to plague them even now, reports the Express.Detailing their behind-the-scenes account, the participant posted on Reddit: "Two episodes of Pointless. I remain haunted by the failure 12 years later."‌They elaborated: "Head to head in the first round, we had to identify pop musicians - our opponents were secondary school teachers and thus passingly familiar with the things young people were into and knew about Rita Ora. I still hold a grudge against her."Matters didn't improve for the contestant as they recalled: "Next day, out in the first round. Words ending in LK. My co-contestant smashed it with a caulk, fantastically low score. I went seventh, so all the obvious choices had gone, and I took a gamble on backtalk."This is passably one word as an Americanism, but it is not in the OED, so I scored the full 100, and we were out."‌They added: "Other contestants were surprised when we got back to the contestant holding a pen to collect our stuff, as apparently we had a sufficiently intellectual aura that they thought we'd do really well. They were mistaken. One slightly miserable hot chocolate in the Westfield Costa afterwards, and home we went."It's not the first occasion a former participant has opened up about their experience on the programme, as Milly Fyfe revealed what host Alexander was like behind the scenes.‌Milly and her husband Andrew took part in the show last year but admitted she was rather taken aback by the presenter's conduct once filming had wrapped.Speaking to Express on behalf of OLBG, Milly, who reached the final, disclosed what happened when the cameras stopped rolling. However, she praised BBC DJ Trevor Nelson, who appeared as a guest on the show.Milly said: "The guest, Trevor Nelson, was amazing. Richard Osman had left by the time I went on the show. But Trevor was lovely and just really nice.Article continues below"I think with Alexander, because he's been doing it for so long and he's very busy with other things other than the show, there wasn't really any engagement with him off-camera."She continued: "He was basically going over doing his emails, or he went into his dressing room. I was quite surprised. On camera, he was great. But equally, I thought he could have been a little bit more engaging with his contestants."
