The Three-Member Court of Appeals of Larissa dismissed on Tuesday a request by lawyers attending proceedings in support of the prosecution for the live broadcast of the 2023 Tempe railway disaster and the personal appearance of the defendants.

The president stated that the request for the defendants to be present was “premature” but reserved the right to reevaluate it, depending on the progress of the trial.

The decision followed the trial prosecutor’s recommendation on June 17 to dismiss both requests, contending that a law banning TV, radio or other broadcasts of trials safeguards the presumption of innocence and the evidentiary process.

So far, four requests have been submitted by the attorneys of the families of the victims regarding various aspects of the trial and all have been rejected.
