A 75-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter and grandson following a quarrel over property at Subhash Nagar within the limits of Kengeri police station limits in Bengaluru.The victim has been identified as Jayamma (75). Police have arrested her daughter Bhagyalakshmi and grandson Vikas in connection with the murder.Preliminary probe revealed that the family was allegedly addicted to alcohol and frequently sold property to fund their drinking habit. On the night of June 21, an argument reportedly broke out between Jayamma and Bhagyalakshmi over the sale of family property.During the heated exchange, Vikas allegedly joined the quarrel. Police said the accused assaulted Jayamma with a wooden pestle used for preparing food, causing fatal injuries.The accused did not inform anyone about Jayamma’s death. Later, Vikas reportedly called a friend asking him to bring liquor, saying his grandmother had died, and that he was mentally disturbed.When the friend arrived, he noticed Jayamma’s body, and immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and uncovered the murder.Based on the complaint and subsequent investigation, Kengeri police registered a case, and arrested Bhagyalakshmi and Vikas. As the accused were in an inebriated state, they were admitted to a hospital. The police were waiting for their recovery to question them. Published - June 23, 2026 12:52 pm IST
