Asta Skaisgirytė, the foreign policy adviser to Lithuania's president has indicated that Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys is expected to remain in his post despite uncertainty surrounding the government reshuffle.
"The President continues to believe that Budrys can keep working as foreign minister; he would be perfectly suited to continue in the position," Skaisgirytė told Žinių Radijas on Tuesday.
Questions over Budrys' future have intensified as Mindaugas Sinkevičius prepares to take over as prime minister.
Last week, President Gitanas Nausėda appeared to set conditions for the minister's continuation, linking his prospects to progress on relations with China and on delivering economic cooperation commitments to Taiwan. Nausėda had previously said he had not heard any specific criticisms of Budrys.
Skaisgirytė sought to play down any suggestion of a shift in the president's position, saying Nausėda was satisfied with the minister's performance and that his stance had not changed.
