South African Police Service national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe and acting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Major General Phumelele Makoba during a meeting between the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster and the Zulu Royal House in Durban. The engagement focused on promoting peace and preventing violence ahead of the planned June 30 anti-illegal migration protests, with KwaZulu-Natal expected to be a key focal point.

The government has enlisted the support of the Zulu Royal House in its efforts to ensure that planned demonstrations linked to illegal immigration on June 30 remain peaceful and within the confines of the law.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi, accompanied by Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Thandi Moraka, met with Zulu Kingdom Prime Minister Thulasizwe Buthelezi and members of the Royal House in Durban on Sunday.

The high-level delegation also included Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, NATJOINTS Chairperson Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, and Home Affairs Director-General Livhuwani Tommy Makhode.

According to government, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss concerns surrounding the planned June 30 demonstrations and to seek the support of traditional leadership in encouraging communities to express their concerns through lawful and peaceful means.
