Civil society organisations and student groups on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, over rising incidents of political violence and killings in the state.

The development comes as Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the killing of a teenager, Ezekiel Olapade, in Ilobu, while the African Democratic Congress suspended its campaign activities in protest.

The protest, organised by the Osun Youth and Students’ Coalition Network and joined by groups, including the National Association of Nigerian Students, the National Association of Colleges of Education Students, and the Osun Youth Network, moved from Freedom Park through major streets of Osogbo.

The protesters called for an end to political violence ahead of the governorship election, warning against attempts to politicise security issues in the state.
