Serbian coach Zeljko Obradovic returned to Panathinaikos basketball after 14 years, receiving a hero’s welcome Monday from more than 3,000 fans at an official presentation ceremony at the Telekom Center in Athens.
Obradovic coached Panathinaikos for 13 seasons (1999-2012), winning five Euroleague titles, 11 Greek League championships and seven Greek Cups. His five Euroleague titles with the club make him the most successful coach with a single club in the competition’s history. “It was very easy to reach an agreement. I have a special connection with Athens,” Obradovic said.
Club president Dimitris Giannakopoulos called it “one of the greatest days in recent years for the club.”
