Panathinaikos basketball club has parted ways with head coach Ergin Ataman after three seasons, the club announced Monday following a meeting between Ataman and owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos.

Ataman departs having won the 2024 Euroleague title, the 2024 Greek championship and two Greek Cups in 2025 and 2026.

“I truly had an amazing time in Athens, in this wonderful country, and I am proud to have worked with Panathinaikos and the Giannakopoulos family,” the Turkish coach said.

Giannakopoulos credited Ataman with transforming the club: “He took us from 17th place to the top of Europe in one year,” adding Ataman would always be “my favorite person in European basketball.”
