Global BankingGettyFor the first time, Forbes will rank the World’s Top Performing Banks based on the performance of financial institutions across four key dimensions: profitability, growth and earnings quality, capital and funding resilience, and asset quality and efficiency.Produced in partnership with market research firm Statista, and slated to publish in September 2026, this inaugural list is predicated on standardized KPIs to ensure data consistency, comparability and transparency. While our existing Statista-partnered bank rankings—national and global—are survey-driven and based on customer evaluations, this new ranking will instead rely on objective financial data to assess bank performance.Qualifications for evaluation are:Financial institutions must be licensed deposit-taking banks with a core business that includes extending credit to retail or corporate clients, such as commercial, universal and wholesale banks.Banks must have more than $3 billion in assets according to the most recent fully available fiscal year (FY2025 where available; otherwise FY2024) converted using fiscal year-end financial exchange rates.Banks must publish financial statements for the most recent fully available and audited fiscal year and provide at least three consecutive years of financial data.Banks must report under reconcilable national accounting standards. To ensure that our analysis includes the most up-to-date data available, banks are welcome to submit standardized KPIs by clicking on the button below.
