Nigerians stranded in South Africa have appealed to the President Bola Tinubu-led government to urgently accelerate their evacuation, lamenting that many have become homeless and destitute following delays in the implementation of a promised repatriation programme.
The President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Smart Nwobi, made the appeal during an interview with News Central Television monitored by SaharaReporters on Monday.
According to Nwobi, hundreds of Nigerians who voluntarily registered for repatriation after the Federal Government announced plans to airlift stranded citizens are now facing severe hardship as only one of the five approved evacuation flights has been conducted.
