Lucas Bergvall wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Chelsea, despite previously kicking the tires, has decided it doesn’t want him back on the lot.
The 20-year-old Swedish midfielder has told Tottenham he’s looking for a fresh start after a season defined more by the bench than the pitch. Chelsea’s decision to walk away narrows the field for a player who arrived in north London with significant promise just two years ago.
From bright prospect to benchwarmer
Bergvall joined Tottenham from Swedish club Djurgarden in July 2024 for a reported fee of around £8.5 million. The deal came with a contract running all the way through June 2031.
Bergvall racked up 50 Premier League appearances for Spurs, chipping in one goal and four assists. Under current Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, Bergvall’s minutes evaporated. Across De Zerbi’s last six matches of the 2025/26 season, the Swede logged just 112 minutes.
