After the official opening of accession negotiations, the pace of Ukraine's and Moldova's European integration process will depend on each candidate country's fulfillment of the criteria set by the European Union.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters in Brussels, Ukrinform's correspondent reported.

Von der Leyen explained that after the opening of the first cluster, each candidate country would be responsible for itself, as they would have to fulfill their reform commitments, which differ from one candidate country to another.

She emphasized that progress would be assessed solely on merit. This will give the countries a clear understanding of the steps needed to meet EU requirements, after which Brussels will fulfill its commitments.
