The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for extreme heat in central and southern England and Wales on Wednesday (June 24) and Thursday. The weather warning also includes an orange weather warning for extreme heat across most other parts of England and Wales, stretching from Lancashire and Cumbria in the north right down to the Cornish coast. With temperatures climbing beyond 35C becoming an increasingly regular occurrence, Brits are desperately searching for any method that will help them keep cool.To assist, one doctor named Dr Jonny Betteridge has revealed his top trick for cooling your body down rapidly and effectively — and all you'll need are two ice packs."Are you struggling to sleep in this heat? Well, I've got a simple tip for you," Dr Jonny said at the beginning of his video before going on to outline his recommendation.Content cannot be displayed without consentHe continued by explaining that he is a doctor who previously worked in the NHS within Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics, regularly treating patients who had dangerously high temperatures of between 40 and 43 degrees."Part of the rapid cooling would be to place ice packs on where the major blood vessels are. So the neck, under the arms, or in the groin," he explained, noting that he personally found the underarm area to be the most effective location. He then urged people to grab a couple of small ice packs – which can be bought for as little as 50p – wrap them in a thin cloth or gym shirt, and place them in their armpits or other areas where the major blood vessels are located."And trust me, the effect on body cooling is so good," he said.He went on to add: "I like to side sleep, so I put it under my armpit, lie on my side. That combined with the fan was just enough to relax me and send me off to sleep."Viewers were quick to heap praise on Dr Jonny for his brilliant hack, while others chipped in with their own tried-and-tested methods for beating the heat."I've been using a cold wet rag around my neck/upper back the past few days and it has really helped me," one person shared. Someone else shared: "I sleep on my front, a damp tea towel on my back in front of a fan works well for me."Article continues belowAnother added: "Tip from growing up somewhere hot: just run a thin t-shirt under the tap, wring it out and wear it (preferably lying in front of a fan). It will keep you cool for long enough to get to sleep but dries quickly enough not to get gross."Meanwhile, others kept things simple, with one commenting: "A fan pointing towards my legs is perfection."Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.HeatwaveNHSMet OfficeExpert AdviceWeatherTikTokDoctorsMoney Matters
