Kenyan lawyers under the umbrella of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have condemned the reported denial of entry into Uganda to Senior Counsel and former Kenyan Justice Minister Martha Karua.

The lawyers described Uganda’s action as an assault on the justice system and a troubling setback for the rule of law and legal cooperation within the East African Community.

Karua, who is the People's Liberation Party (PLP) presidential aspirant in Kenya was reportedly detained by Ugandan authorities at Entebbe International Airport after being denied entry into the country.

Karua was prevented from entering Uganda while travelling to observe the arraignment of Kampala Lord Mayor and lawyer, Erias Lukwago, and to support efforts aimed at protecting the rights of a fellow member of the legal profession.
