Peter Kavecký’s vision for Metropol blends coffee, concerts and conversation in an attempt to reconnect a city that he believes has forgotten how to gather.
Peter Kavecký has been active in Bratislava’s cultural scene for over 20 years. In addition to his long-standing involvement with Bratislava Jazz Days, Kavecký has worked in real estate development, eventually becoming commercial director at Lucron, the firm behind projects such as Vydrica, Urban Residence, and Nesto.
Over time, he says he has become increasingly interested in combining his experience in culture, events, and development to refurbish neglected buildings and create sustainable public spaces for creative life in Bratislava.
That interest has culminated in the revival of Metropol, a 100-year-old Art Deco building overlooking Bratislava’s Americké námestie square.
His vision was to transform the former cinema and bank into a new hub of creative and cultural life in Bratislava. Not just as a venue, but a “platform” meant to reconnect people in an increasingly divided city: part café, part bakery, part cultural centre, and part public meeting space, with a 200-seat performance venue at its heart.
