The 58-year-old chef was aboard the Panamanian-flagged Victress, from which eight other crew members, including Turkish and Indian citizens, were successfully evacuated in a Ukrainian rescue operation. These Russian attacks on shipping followed Ukrainian forces striking energy and military infrastructure on either side of a crucial bridge connecting occupied Crimea and Russia.
