When Rassie Erasmus selected Quan Horn at flyhalf last week, it certainly raised a few eyebrows.
Rassie doing Rassie things was the general consensus. The Springboks' mentor justified the selection, arguing that it was a good experiment to see whether Horn could play in the position, while also protecting the likes of Manie Libbok and Damian Willemse for the upcoming Nations Championship.
The 24-year-old gave a decent account of himself at No 10 in the Boks' 80-31 victory over the Barbarians in Gqeberha this past weekend in a tour match. It wasn’t the glitz and glamour of a Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu performance at pivot, nor did it possess the showmanship of Damian Willemse at No 10.
In general, Horn kept the backline moving forward with solid passing, relying on André Esterhuizen and Jesse Kriel to take the ball up into the line, despite a few mistakes.
