With Alphonso Davies not having played at the World Cup as he recovers from a hamstring injury, Eustaquio has worn the armband for Canada in both matches. After Canada’s win over Qatar, Eustaquio showed no visible sign of injury.“We came here to do very good, to win the game, to make it such a beautiful day for Canada,” the 29-year-old said of his country’s historic first men’s World Cup win.Eustaquio has 58 caps for Canada and is a presumed starter in every game for Canada in a deep-lying midfield position.Alfie Jones also did not train with Canada. He is expected to partake in individual training. The centre-back is still recovering from an ankle injury and has played just once for Canada since sustaining that injury in December 2025.It remains unlikely Jones will play against Switzerland in Canada’s final group stage game.Davies took part in team training that assembled media were permitted to view on Sunday. After Canada’s win over Qatar, head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that Davies would train with Canada through the week.“We’ll put him through a good training regimen this week and then evaluate how he fits in for Switzerland,” Marsch said of Davies, “but he’s getting closer and closer to 100 percent, that’s for sure.”Jun 21, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
