José Mourinho apparently has a type. Dynamic, box-to-box midfielders who can dominate a game from whistle to whistle. Frank Lampard was that player at Chelsea. Now, reports suggest Jude Bellingham is that player in Mourinho’s potential plans at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese manager reportedly considers Bellingham a cornerstone of his long-term project at the club, with insiders describing the English midfielder as a “franchise player” in the vision Mourinho is assembling.

The Lampard comparison keeps surfacing

Mourinho’s admiration for Bellingham isn’t exactly new. He’s been drawing comparisons between the 22-year-old and Lampard since at least 2021, when Bellingham was still turning heads at Borussia Dortmund and hadn’t yet made the leap to Spain’s capital.

Since arriving at Real Madrid from Dortmund in 2023, Bellingham has rapidly cemented himself as one of the most important players at the club. His contributions have been central to Real Madrid’s ambitions across domestic and European competitions, including Champions League success.
