Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar participated in a Yoga session held on the occasion of International Yoga Day at TNAU in Coimbatore on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said on Sunday (June 21, 2026) that yoga is India’s timeless gift to humanity. The Governor, who took part in the International Yoga Day celebration at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore, posted on X that yoga, rooted in the profound wisdom of sage Patanjali, has become a global movement promoting physical fitness, mental harmony and holistic well-being.“Our country, our tradition, our culture has in its inheritance the culture of yoga. Yoga is not for one day, it is not for June 21 every year. It has to be practised every day. All people, irrespective of age, can practise this” said Mr. Arlekar while addressing over 1,500 students and faculty members after a yoga session at TNAU in the morning, along with secretary to Governor Sajjansingh R. Chavan and TNAU acting Vice-Chancellor Subrahmaniyan Kasirajan.International Yoga Day was celebrated at Sainik School Amaravathinagar from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. under the leadership of Principal Captain (Indian Navy) Rahul Thiyyath. Administrative Officer Lt. Col. Himanshu Sharma, Senior Master Sony P. Abraham, academic, administrative and NCC staff and cadets performed various yoga asanas together at the parade ground of the school, which ended with a meditation. Various asanas were demonstrated and explained by the team of Shri Paranjothi Yoga College, Thirumoorthi hills. Lt. Col. Koushok Nandhini, Officer Commanding Sainik School COY, NCC, coordinated the event.More than 500 NSS volunteers and programme officers performed yoga asanas in the celebration held at the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Registrar R. Rajavel inaugurated the celebration and addressed the gathering on the theme ‘yoga for healthy ageing’.Around 500 students performed yoga asanas in the Yoga Day celebration at Maruthi College of Physical Education at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Periyanaickenpalayam. Certificates were distributed to the student participants.Isha Foundation conducted yoga sessions at about 1,000 locations in the country, including 500 in Tamil Nadu.
