The Abia State Government has approved the prohibition of commercial motorcycle operations, popularly known as okada, within the metropolitan areas of Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia.

The government said the measure is aimed at strengthening security, enhancing public safety, improving traffic management, and promoting a more organised transportation system across the state.

In a statement on Saturday, the state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, said the ban will take effect from Monday, June 22, 2026.
