The Lands and Titles Court confirmed Faumuina Opapo Soanaʻi Oeti as the holder of the Mataʻafa title of Amaile.

The decision was delivered on Friday.

According to the ruling, 12 applications were filed seeking the appointment of a holder of the Mataʻafa title.

The LTC said that it relied on two key earlier decisions, a 1939 decision, which established that the Sa Levalasi family leadership has the authority to appoint a titleholder from the eligible descendants of Silupevaelei and Faasuamaleʻaui.

The second, a 1977 decision, which confirmed that the LTC had the authority to appoint a titleholder if the Sa Levalasi family cannot reach an agreement.
