Googles first new smart speaker in six years is set to be delivered starting June 25. This means the company is narrowly missing the promised spring launch date. The Google Home Speaker can be pre-ordered now in 18 regions worldwide, including Austria and Switzerland – curiously not yet in Germany.
“Soon”
When asked by heise online why the new Home Speaker is initially bypassing Germany, we received a unhelpful answer: “We are pleased that the Google Home Speaker will be available in 18 regions worldwide starting June 25, 2026, including Austria and Switzerland. The Google Home Speaker will be available soon in Germany.” Google does not provide a reason for the delay, merely stating that it should “soon” be available in this country as well.
With the delayed market launch, users currently have no way to equip themselves directly from the Google Store with Gemini for Home-compatible smart speakers. This is because the solutions previously offered, such as Nest Audio and Nest Mini, have been discontinued, as Google confirmed to Tech Advisor: “As we continue to build the future of the smart home, we are refining our portfolio of Google Home and Nest devices. As part of this evolution, we have ended production of the Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Audio,” said Google.
