Books written by transgenders being released in Madurai on Saturday.

As part of the Pride Month celebrations, the Transgender Resource Centre in Madurai on Saturday conducted ‘Pride and Madurai 2026’ with focus on recognising the literary works of the transgenders.Transgender Resource Centre Director Priya Babu said the highlight of this year’s event was the literary works of transgenders. Five books authored by transgenders were released at the event.Autobiographies written by transmen Shivarudhran and Shakthi, and transwoman Manu and collection of poems written by transwoman Roopa Evangelin and collection of short stories written by transwoman Rajakumari were released.Madurai District Social Welfare Officer R. Gandhimathi explained the welfare measures and the schemes being implemented for the benefit of the transgenders and Startup TN Project Lead Sakthivel Kaliappan explained the grants being provided to support the transgenders to run startups.Changemakers awards were presented to a total of 12 persons. They were felicitated for the role they played in supporting transgenders with regard to providing solutions to issues, educational support or financial support.Trangender literature, folk artist, social worker, voice of equity were some of the other awards presented at the event.Some of the other events held as part of the celebrations included the talent show where transgender persons displayed their talents. An exhibition of the paintings depicting the historical, literary and mythological narratives about transgenders was also held as part of the celebrations.Transgenders from across Tamil Nadu, government officials, industrialists, social activists, students and volunteers participated in the event.
