Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, announced that he is declining the Gold Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Poland, which was awarded to him last year by the Polish president.

According to Ukrinform, he announced this on Facebook.

“Unfortunately,” Budanov noted, “Polish President Karol Nawrocki has committed an unfriendly act toward our people by stripping the President of Ukraine of the Order of the White Eagle previously awarded to him.”

“Undoubtedly, this is a gift to the Moscow aggressor, which he will certainly use against both of our countries,” the head of the Office of the President emphasized.

According to him, “our peoples have long-standing relations and various chapters of history—both heroic and tragic. However, this should prompt deep reflection, not crude political speculation. Ukraine does not tell any other nation how to teach its history. Therefore, we reserve the just right to our own national memory and dignity.”
