More than 100 city-contracted security guards meant to watch over BMO Field and Fan Fest during the World Cup skipped work this week, requiring police officers to work overtime to fill in for them, according to a Star source.
The absences in the first week of the tournament, which the private security company denies, are raising questions about the city’s state of preparedness, as it welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to Toronto for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
