Magyar blocks Ukraine fast-track EU push Earlier on Friday, Magyar said he managed to remove the language on “accelerating” Ukraine’s EU accession from the EU Council summit declaration, after what he described as four hours of intense debate. He presented the outcome as both a negotiation success for Budapest, as well as a rare moment of unanimity among EU members, saying it allowed for “a closing declaration accepted by all member states” for the first time in a year and a half. He framed his approach as a compromise rather than complete obstruction, while the EU Council still reaffirms support for Ukraine’s accession path.
