Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said Friday that advancing the European Union membership bids of Western Balkan countries will be a top priority during Greece’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2027.
Speaking in Sarajevo after talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic, Gerapetritis said Greece would work to secure tangible progress on enlargement.
He reiterated Athens’ long-standing support for the region’s EU integration but stressed that accession depends on meeting EU standards on democracy, the rule of law and good-neighborly relations.
He also announced the resumption of direct flights between Athens and Sarajevo in October.
