Mother and daughter Pernille and Asta Nonved found themselves accidental queuers on the opening day of Joe & the Juice’s first Irish outlet on Dublin’s Dawson Street. “We are from Denmark so we have tried it a lot in Denmark,” says Asta. “I just wanted a smoothie and I know I can get a good smoothie from Joe & the Juice, so of course I wanted to go to Joe & the Juice. It’s always the same everywhere.” Pernille says that she was surprised to see such a long queue for cafe. “Yeah, why are there so many people here? Then Asta said that they must be opening today.”The Danish cafe has more than 500 locations worldwide and places an emphasis on healthy offerings including juices, smoothies, matcha, and salads. Sandwiches are priced from €8.75 upwards, americano’s are €3.80 and smoothies and juices are priced between €7 and €8. Friends Klaudia Dudek, Nino Tsereteli and Marwa Ismael were among the first in the queue this morning, having travelled from the Blanchardstown-Lucan area in Dublin. The girls reckon they were queuing for 45 minutes to an hour.“This has been a long time coming,” says Nino, adding that the chain has numerous locations in the UK.“I was told the tuna melt was really, really good,” says Klaudia, referring to the company’s best selling Tunacado sandwich, which has tuna, avocado, cress and tomatoes.Marwa has tried Joe & the Juice abroad. “I have been craving one of these for so long,” she says, holding up a passion fruit juice.Emily Carroll and Rebecca Tyrrell both travelled into the city centre from Templologue for the opening. They have also tried the chain abroad. “We went in Liverpool and it was really, really nice,” says Emily. “We just said we had to try it in Dublin,” adds Rebecca. Ben Sturley, who works in marketing with Joe & the Juice says that the Dawson Street location is the first of many shops the company plans to open around the country before the end of 2026. “Dublin is just the start for Ireland. It’s our launch pad. We have four to five more stores planned for this year hopefully.”
