Robert Fico has said he intends to devote greater attention to relations between Slovakia and Ukraine and does not rule out another meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky during the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk.

Speaking after a meeting of the European Council in Brussels, Fico noted that his recent discussion with Zelensky was their second face-to-face meeting since their encounter in Armenia.

Fico said that he assumed there would again be an opportunity for a brief meeting in Gdańsk, where he intended to participate in the international conference on Ukraine's recovery.

The Slovak prime minister acknowledged that he and Zelensky held diametrically opposed views on many issues, but stressed that he supported direct dialogue even with people whose opinions differed significantly from his own.

He added that he welcomed such opportunities because direct dialogue allowed matters to be discussed more pragmatically and effectively than through exchanges of documents or phone calls. He noted that he had once again focused on cooperation between Slovakia and Ukraine as a neighboring country and emphasized that Slovakia wanted a stable and democratic Ukraine because it was also in Slovakia's interest.
