The scene of the hijacking
A Phoenix mother and her children narrowly escaped a hijacking attempt, thanks to the quick actions of family and community members who intervened during the terrifying ordeal.
Five gunmen cornered the woman and her children, who were seated in their vehicle, at the corner of Avalen Crescent and Northcroft in Phoenix on Wednesday evening.
“It is alleged that about five armed men attempted to hijack a blue Toyota Corolla. The suspects reportedly tried to force the occupants from the vehicle but were disturbed by family members and community members who intervened," said Gareth Naidoo, the spokesperson for KZN VIP Emergency Services.
“During the incident, the suspects allegedly discharged several rounds before fleeing the scene in a silver-grey Hyundai i10. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported."
